Devi, 2001-10-12 02:04:04 Salud d'an holl, I am a bit confused about the difference between mont (to go, aller) and dont (to come, venir) in Breton. In particular -- in using the "present continu" with present participle ( o + infintive). I know that "Where are you going?" (Ou vas-tu?) can be expressed "Da belec'h emaout o vont?". What about "Where are you coming from?" (D'ou viens-tu?). Is this "Da belec'h emaout o tont?" (mutation d->t after "o") or something else? mersi bras, Devi Re: mont vs dont Steve, 2001-10-12 08:18:22 Da belec'h emaout o vond? "Where are you going?" Deus pelec'h emaout o tond? "Where are you coming from?" Note the variations in the conjugation of emañ: Leon and literary Breton: emaon, emaout, emañ, emaomp, emaoc'h, emaint W Brittany outside Leon: 'mon, 'mout, 'mañ, 'momp, 'moc'h, 'maint E Brittany (Treger, Kerne Uhel, Gwened), the historical forms inherited from Middle Breton: h-oñ, h-out, 'mañ, h-omp, h-oc'h, 'maint n-oñ ked, n-out ked, 'mañ ked, n-omp ked, n-oc'h ked, 'maint ked Re: mont vs dont Eliboubana, 2002-02-01 12:10:51 You were almost right, but got mixed up in using the prepositions . Da is to, not from, eus is from. |
