Olga, 2001-09-23 20:13:26 Demat deoc'h ! I am a Belgian (Flemish) who is learning Irish Gaelic, Breton (via Skol Ober) and Welsh (via Lampeter university). I am quite enjoying the Lampeter course for Welsh (lessons via internet with tutor) and I am very pleased that they will offer an online course for Breton as well somewhere in the near future ! I haven't got any date yet; Julie Brake, the e-learning director, is currently preparing it all, as well as a book " Essential coursebook for Breton" which is announced on Amazon.co.uk for 2003. I am working with the French-based book " Ni a gomz brezhoneg" with Skol Ober and find the book OK, and my tutor too, but there is a set of translation exercises to do which is - to put it mildly- very boring, and I'm debating whether I should continue or just wait for Julie's course. If you are English-speaking and considering learning Breton, the course in Lampeter could be what you are looking for ! Their Welsh course is excellent !!! Their website address is : www.lamp.ac.uk or www. e-addysg.com or, alternatively, you can contact Julie Brake at : j.brake@lamp.ac.uk A galon, Olga Vanherle Re: Breton through English Arian Iñigo, 2001-09-26 06:38:21 Any tuition fees for the Lampeter course? I am presently learning Welsh, but I have much difficulty locating a Breton teacher. A galon laouen, Arian Iñigo Re: Breton through English David Darr, 2001-09-26 19:19:01 Demat dit Arian, Have you checked out Skol Ober for Breton? Their web site is http://perso.wanadoo.fr/skol-ober/. I am presently taking Breton via Skol Ober using "Ni a gomz Brezhoneg" which is in French. Skol Ober also offers an English based method -- the English translation of Per Denez' "Brezhoneg Buan hag Aes". There is a charge for the courses but it was not excessive. Exercises were traditionally sent and returned corrected via mail but now they offer the option of using email for exercises. I must say though that I don't find "Ni a gomz Brezhoneg" as boring as Olga apparently does, though I do find the translation exercises difficult. On the other hand, I also used this book in a "cours de soir" in Plougastel last fall when I was living in Brittany. One can also order all the materials from Skol Ober although there are plenty of other sources for Breton material now -- most notably Ar Bed Keltiek -- http://www.arbedkeltiek.com/. kenavo eus Seattle, David p.s. This is a long shot I know -- but what the heck -- anyone else out there in Seattle? I'd like to start a Breton conversation group. I know one native speaker from Cotes-d'Armor who would be willing to us help us out some as well.
